Frank van den Ham, Iridescent folded bowl

This object has a shape that became one of the trademarks of Frank van den Ham’s recent work in glass fusing. In the series of ‘folded bowls’, this bowl seems to be an exception because of its lack of colour. Pictures can hardly do justice to the colourfulness that the object, in fact, has. Hundreds of strips of iridescent glass were cut, put on its side and fused into one slab. Iridescent glass (in this case, clear) is glass with a metal layer on the surface. Depending on the metals fumed onto the glass, one or more colours will show in reflecting the light. Here, a so-called rainbow iridescent was used. A rainbow of colours shimmers between the strips and has surprising effects, changing with every angle one looks.  

The size of the object, height x width x depth, is 14 x 40 x 11 cm.
