Glass fusing East meets West
Frank fused brown, ocher, yellow and grey glass into a slab for this object. The slab was slumped into a bowl, and in a third firing, that bowl was brought into its present form.
Ida Bagus Oka, a master woodcarver from Mas in Bali, provided an identical form in Suar wood called rainwood. This one-of-a-kind object is one of several works where Frank connects local Balinese tradition with the ancient yet modern glass fusing technique.
In Frank's opinion, paraphrasing Kipling,
"East is East, and West is West, and ever the twain shall meet".
The size of each part is height x width x depth, 12 x 25 x 12 cm.
