Smell of spring and new life

A glorious, sunny object that smells of spring and new life. Frank created this big object in greens and oranges in the series' folded bowls'. Like all his work, this is a unique piece. In several firings up to 820 0C (1500 0F) glass was fused. A huge number of rectangles of coloured glass were cut and fused together, becoming one slab of glass in the process.
The slab was ground and polished to remove all traces on the side it was fused on to achieve a total, shiny, transparent object. Then, in a second firing, the slab became a bowl by slumping it through a hole in a mould, a process requiring permanent monitoring. After cutting off the parts the slump rested on and meticulously grinding and polishing the rim, the bowl got its final shape in a third firing.
The mix of greens and oranges and the play of the small rectangles covering each other depending on the angle at which one looks at the work provide an ever-interesting feast for the eye. 

An option is to combine this object with the object nr. FH000012, the two together make an even more impressive statement.
