Stearin oil 1 ltr.
Stearine oil serves as flux when soldering stained glass.
Stearin oil serves as a flux when soldering stained glass. A flux ensures that the solder tin flows nicely or forms smoothly into a nice soldering tip.
In the past, the old glazier used parfine, or candle wax, as a flux when soldering stained glass. Stearine oil is the liquid sister of parfine. Due to cold, stearin oil may solidify slightly in winter, in which case there are white flakes in the stearin oil. The oil is then not tainted or expired, just put it in the heater and it turns a beautiful golden yellow again.
